gil garcetti photographs frank gehry's disney concert hall
If you followed the O.J. Simpson trial, you're probably familiar with Gil Garcetti, L.A.'s district attorney at the time (Marcia Clark's boss). Who knew he had a second career as a photographer?
The former district attorney is also very happy. Lately when strangers greet him on the street, it's not to talk about O.J. Instead they're likely to congratulate him on "Iron: Erecting the Walt Disney Concert Hall," a book of photographs documenting the labors of the ironworkers that was published last year. "I was in New York City a month and a half ago, and that's a city in which I am used to being recognized," he says. "This guy makes eye contact and says as I walk past him, 'Mr. Garcetti.' I turn around not knowing what to expect, you have to be a little on guard, and he smiled and said, 'I am sorry I don't have your book with me to sign. Those are spectacular photographs.' "
I'm not very fond of Frank Gehry's work in general (I'd love to see his Guggenheim Bilbao though) but Garcetti's photos of the Concert Hall are lovely and on the off chance that I ever go back to L.A. (one of my least favorite cities) I'll be sure to check it out.

the walt disney concert hall sucks the whole aroma of the l.a. atmosphere
Looks like the boneyard out behind a sheet-metal shop.
How can I purchase an original photo taken by Mr. Garcetti? Does anyone out there know??
Mr. Garcetti, I met you some years ago when you spoke to a management group at the Gas Company. After the presentation I introduced myself as a member of the Santa Barbara Hispanic Achievement council and asked if you would consider being the keynote speaker at our annual awards banquets. You said you would but since it was such a long time ago you might not remember. Nevertheless, I once again extend the invitation for you to speak at our banquet on Friday, October 6, 2006. If this is still a possibility more details will follow. Hoping you will respond.
